The Prayer Meeting Leader .....

Is Empowered - An extension of the Core Team.  You do not stand alone.
The Leader represents the Core Team at the prayer meeting.  As leader, you are empowered and supported by the Core Team to lead.  Be a leader.  You are not alone.

Leads - If you don't lead, someone else will - perhaps not the one you might choose to lead.  The Leader asserts leadership at the beginning of the meeting and maintains that leadership throughout the meeting.  Start by introducing yourself as the leader, outline the flow & "rules" of the meeting, and then stick to them.  If you don't assert yourself, someone else will take leadership.

Is Flexible and Disciplined - Both open to the Holy Spirit and right-ordered.
The leader is open and flexible to the leading of the Spirit in the prayer meeting, but maintains discipline.  Listen to the leadings of the Spirit but stick to the general game plan.  Flexibility to the point of weakness can quickly degenerate into chaos.  God's Holy Spirit is a spirit of order and self-control.

Is Loving - "It is by your love for one another that everyone will recognize you as my disciples."  (John 13:35)  The Leader is warm, welcoming and loving ? to everyone - as Christ was to all who approached Him.  Pray for the grace to love all who will be at the prayer meeting.  Reach out especially to those who you might have the most difficulty getting along with.  Your first job as leader is to love all who are present.

Is Gentle and Firm - Exert leadership, and correction if necessary, with love.
The Leader is responsible to both the prayer meeting at large and to the individuals at the meeting.  Be both gentle and assertive.  Recurring problems with certain people should be discussed with the Core Team prior to the meeting, with agreement for Core Team action prior to/during the meeting.
